Off Topic...

Can Matthew Good hurry up and come back to Montreal? It's been almost a year and that's just too long. I have Running for Home on repeat. That's still probably one of my favorite songs of all time. Strange Days is also a ridiculous song by him. The man is such a genius. I could sit and watch him sing for hours on end.

In other news I got my confirmation to interview Thriving Ivory this Sunday. I'm completely stoked. It's a lot of fun to interview bands that you know so much about because there's so much more you want to know. It's just a pleasure to get to sit there and listen and learn. I'd die to interview Matthew Good..if he ever came back to Montreal....

&& tonight should be wicked. Three playoff games that I care a lot about. Montreal/Boston which should be intense. I know we're the underdogs but I won't stop believing. That's followed by Calgary/Chicago, a series where I'm happy to see either team win although I'd like the Hawks to take it in 7. Lastly, Sharks/Ducks...it'll be nice to finally get to watch some Sharks games. I basically have no social life during playoffs. How can I? This is the best time of the year! haha.

If I could put it into words...

I wasn't expecting to go see The Fray. It was more of a last minute thing. Thank God I went. I've always been someone who has gravitated more towards softer more intense music. Josh Groban, Matthew Good, Thriving Ivory, Jacks Mannequin....now The Fray. There's NOTHING better then one man(or band) who's able to capture your complete attention and make you forget about everything in the world. When he sat down at his piano...I wish I could put it into words. It was kind of surreal. I go to a lot of fun shows but every once in awhile I need to go to a show that makes me lose myself in the music.

New job

A couple of months ago I was freaking out over school. I knew I wanted to do something in the music industry but I couldn't find any schools that could help me learn more. I panicked and thought that I wasn't getting anywhere...turns out I was wrong. Last week Melissa & I became Confront Magazine employees. Our job as correspondents include interviewing artists, writing reviews of shows and cds, among other things. I've never in my life been so happy to get hired for something. My first assignment was to write up questions for the band Spiral Beach for an online interview that would be featured on the site in the near future. After that Mel & I were assigned to the Taste of Chaos show where we would each be interviewing two bands. I chose Thursday since I know a lot about them and Cancer Bats. On top of that we were contacted about doing an interview with none other then The New Cities next week for their upcoming album. I've always loved writing but I never realized I could intertwine it with music and create a dream job.

I've also asked to interview Thriving Ivory on April 19th. If it works out I can honestly say I'll be the happiest girl in the world. They've been one of my absolute favorite bands since I discovered them in Cape Cod back in August. I can listen to their album over and over again and never get sick of it. Every time I listen to them I get goosebumps and it never ceases to make me ridiculously happy. I have so much to ask them if I get the chance. As Mel has said so many times, it finally feels like I'm headed in the right direction. Maybe taking some time off from school was the smartest thing for me. Taking a break has given me the opportunity to try things out.

Welcome Home.

Everyone that knows me knows that I had a really hard time seeing Cristobal Huet being traded last year. My brother & I were probably his biggest fans in Montreal, so to see him put on another jersey was just way too weird for us. He certainly wasn't one of the best players to ever wear the Canadiens jersey but he was one of the kindest and one of the most entertaining to watch. I've followed Prices career since he played for Tricity and his style bores me. I love him as a goaltender and I'm a big fan but I love the crazy guys. The Tim Thomas' & Cris Huets of our world. The goalies who are too small to make all the saves just by positioning themselves. The goalies who have to become acrobats to stop the puck. Every time I went to a game I knew I'd leave there having been blown away by atleast one spectacular save by Huey & he never let me down. Price will be a better goalie in the long run, but no one compares to Huet.
I knew the second I saw that Chicago was coming here that I had to get tickets to the game. I headed downtown yesterday with Laura to get our Huet shirts signed and hopefully see him for a few minutes. We lucked in and stopped him on the street. He was just as kind as I remember him to be. He spoke with all the fans who asked for pictures & autographs and looked genuinely happy that people still remembered what he did for the team. While many Blackhawk players put their heads down and avoided any fans that saw them, Huey stood out in the street for a good 20 minutes, making sure he had a chance to see everyone. At one point we heard "CRISTO! CRISTO" and everyone turned around to see Price hanging out of Josh Gorges' car yelling for Huets attention. It was really neat to see the two of them chatting briefly. You could tell by how happy they were to see each other and that despite all the shit that went down last year they were still close. My favorite goalie tandem ever. Even though it only lasted a few months.Jenn & I were beyond nervous for the game. I wanted the Habs to win so that they could hold onto 8th, but at the same time I didn't want to see Huet let any in. I'm not even going to lie, when he initially came onto the ice and the anthems were being sung, Jenn & I teared up. Seeing him on the other side sucked. He let in a goal on our first shot and from that moment on the crowd didn't leave him alone. There was Huet taunting chants all throughout the game that got increasingly louder with every goal against and which escalated to HUET SUCKS chants during intermissions in the halls. One asshole in back of me even told Jenn & I that we should go throw out our shirts. I can understand taunting the opposing goalie, hell I do it all the time but it just became too much after awhile. I listened to Habs fans screaming at people in Huet jerseys. He wasn't the greatest goalie but the guy played his heart out every night and never pointed fingers. If the team had a shit game and he stood on his head and won it, he'd give credit to everyone. He was a class act. It's a shame that there's nothing classy about the majority of the Habs fans here in Montreal. No wonder people don't want to play here. We're putting a group together to travel to Chicago next year to catch 2 games and cheer him on in better surroundings..maybe around more competent fans. We ended up winning the game but after the 2nd goal scored by the Habs I stopped standing up. I've never done that before in my life. I've never been so unenthused to see us score one.

I'm very lucky

You have to be really careful who you surround yourself with. I've made mistakes over the years when it came to friendships, believe me. I've befriended so many people for the wrong reasons...to fit in, to stand out, to just have someone around me...and I'd always get screwed over in the end. I can honestly say that I have the best friends in the world now. I don't know what I did to deserve them and I don't know what I'd do without them. They make the tough times easier. They make me smile when I feel like absolute shit. Most importantly though, they love me for me and I don't have to become someone different to please them or to be accepted by them. One day we'll get that condo overlooking Montreal or Jenn will purchase the Marriot and we''ll all move in. Whatever comes first.
